Truck and van drivers 'risk lives with irresponsible behaviour'

Monday, 26/11/2007

Motorists behind the wheel of larger vehicles are putting people's lives at risk by driving irresponsibly, it has been reported.

According to the Daily Post North Wales, officers in the region banned 61 people from the road over the course of a 48-hour crackdown.

Some of the offences including overloading vehicles and sleeping at the wheel, it added.

Indeed, a motoring conviction may result in people paying more for their van insurance policies in the future, as cover firms may consider a person with a poor road history to be a risk on the road.

"Rogue" drivers are behaving irresponsibly on "a daily basis", commented Chief Superintendent Geraint Anwyl of North Wales police.

This comes as official government statistics show that 3,150 people died on roads in the UK during 2006.

Figures show that this is down from the 3,201 recorded over the course of 2005.
