Homeowners have been warned to make sure they stay security-conscious as the clocks are put forward this weekend.
Saga commented that there is often a higher rate of burglaries over the lighter and warmer evenings, as opportunistic thieves take advantage of open windows and doors.
For this reason it may be a good idea to take out a new home insurance policy or increase existing cover plans.
According to Paul Green, head of group communications for the body, a contingency plan should be set up for when the houses are left empty.
"If you go on holiday this summer, try to arrange for a neighbour, friend or family member to visit your house every couple of days to check everything is OK," he said.
People in the UK are reminded that British Summer Time begins on Sunday 30th March at 02:00 when the clocks go forward by an hour.
