Brookes And Redding Set To Bounce Back At Oulton ParkTue, 30/04/2019
The Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team heads for round two of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend hoping for a better showing than at Silverstone two weeks ago.
With only a single podium finish to show for their hard work at the opening round, both four-times Grand Prix winner Scott Redding and former BSB champion Josh Brookes be will aiming to get their championship aspirations back on track around the undulating Cheshire circuit.
Aboard the factory-supported Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R, both riders took part in the official test there last week with 36-year-old Brookes, from Bringelly in New South Wales, Australia, topping the times whilst 26-year-old Redding, from Quedgeley in Gloucestershire, prioritised learning the track which will host another round later in the season.
Both Brookes and Redding reported positive feedback for Paul Bird’s Lake District-based team who have a good record at the track most local to their Penrith headquarters. The team recorded a one-two finish two years ago with Shane Byrne leading home Glenn Irwin and Shakey scored a podium at the corresponding meeting last year.
Brookes, meanwhile, has a wonderful record at Oulton Park with 22 podium finishes including four wins during his time in BSB so will be hoping to add to that tally after his unfortunate double DNF at the opening round due to technical problems.
Scott Redding: “I rode at Oulton Park for the first time last week and my first impressions were it was crazy as I’ve never ridden anywhere like that in my career! But the more laps I did, the more comfortable I felt and the more I enjoyed it, but it was a mind-blowing experience. I was happy with my times; we did lots of laps and we have a good setting for this weekend so now I need to dig in and get some good points on the back of my Silverstone podium.”
Josh Brookes: “It was good to top the test last week and it just further proves what we can do when everything is working well with me, the bike and the team. We came away with some more ideas on how to improve further and I’m confident we have what it takes to win races. We had good pace at Silverstone and came away with nothing but that is history now so it’s important to bounce back and we need two solid races at Oulton Park this weekend.”
John Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator: “After a disappointing round one as a whole for Be Wiser Ducati, apart from Scott’s first BSB podium, the team moved onto the official test at Oulton Park where Josh showed great pace and was able for the first time this year to test some components which gave the PBM staff a better understanding of the new V4 R. Scott was there for the first time and enjoyed himself but admitted there are still places on the circuit where he can improve his lap times. So, all in all it was a positive test so hopefully we can turn our fortunes around and get the championship up and running with four strong results at our local circuit.”
There is live action on Eurosport throughout the weekend with Datatag Extreme Qualifying on Sunday from 16.00 and the Bennetts BSB races live on Monday at 13.30 and 16.30. Various highlights will be broadcast during the week including on ITV4 on Wednesday evening at 20.00.
