Motorists in Gloucestershire can expect to pick up fines if they park illegally in the region from Monday, according to a local news source.

The Gloucestershire Gazette has commented that Stroud District Council has taken over parking policing in the area, with congestion and road safety two of the main issues the body is looking to target.

Indeed, those with car insurance policies may find that their premiums go down if the scheme proves to be a success.

However, not everybody is happy about the news, as there are fears that the parking clampdown will have an effect on commerce in the area.

"If there is no parking in Dursley then no one will come to the shops. If they are not careful they will kill off the town," said local shop owner Sue Oldfield.

This comes as Tesco has announced plans to erect a new 70-space car park at its Extra site in Wigan, according to the Wigan Today.
