How can a young driver lower their car insurance?Thu, 23/07/2009
Young drivers may find their insurance premiums are high, especially if they are male.
This is because many providers believe this type of motorist is more likely to be involved in an accident than other road users.
However, there are ways for new drivers to lower the cost of a policy, such as going on a Pass Plus course.
This extra road training has been created by the Driving Standards Agency in conjunction with insurers to improve the capabilities of less experienced vehicle owners.
It will usually comprise lessons on specific aspects of using Britain's highways, such as operating an auto at night or going at higher speeds on the motorway.
Navigating winding rural roads is also usually included in the bundle of lessons, as is operating a vehicle in adverse weather conditions.
Unlike when first learning to drive, there is no end-of-course examination, but assessments run throughout the period, with each module needing to be completed.
The courses are available in most areas of the UK, with contact details and application information available on the organisation's official website.
