Be Wiser Insurance

An increasing problem in heavily populated urban areas is mindless vehicle vandalism and it seems like there is no way of preventing this sort of petty criminal activity.

However, a leading car parts supplier has suggested a possible solution, a car cover. The firm has said that almost half a million people in England and Wales report damage to their vehicles by vandals and it is likely that this figure is actually much higher.

It is not just overnight that criminals could strike, if you regularly leave your vehicle at a train station or car park or even if you are just out shopping for the day your car could be at risk.

To save on car insurance claims, the firm suggests using especially designed covers which can be fitted on MPVs, estates, saloons and 4x4s as well as smaller cars or even motorbikes in minutes. The material is waterproof and breathable to prevent moss build-up.

"We have customers who use our car covers whilst parked up at work, at railway stations and while shopping," said a spokesman for the company.

"Owners will cover their car when parked on the drive overnight, it keeps the car clean, prevents frost and it discourages thieves and acts as a deterrent to vandalism. It's just one more barrier against the mindless criminal. It won't stop the problem; it just means the criminal is more likely to target another vehicle."
