A veteran sprinter rolled back the years at Newcastle to clinch a place on Good Friday Finals Day, while two top jockeys got back in the winner’s enclosure.

PRINCE REIGNS IN NEWCASTLE FAST TRACK

CASPIAN PRINCE dominated Newcastle’s Fast Track Qualifier on Tuesday evening to clinch his place in the £150,000 Sprint Final on Good Friday. Tony Coyle’s veteran held off Atletico despite shouldering a 7lb penalty for last year’s Group success and may now head to Qatar in February for a valuable race en route to Lingfield at Easter.

McDONALD MAKES A FLYING START

PJ McDONALD wasted no time building on his best ever year in 2017 when he won a valuable handicap on Von Blucher at Newcastle on Tuesday. There was also a notable win for PAUL MULRENNAN on Dubawi Fifty in the feature stayers’ handicap on his return from a lengthy suspension.

GODOLPHIN FILLY TAKES LINGFIELD FEATURE

Godolphin filly DUBAI ONE could be heading out to Meydan in Dubai after landing Lingfield’s feature Sprint on New Year weekend. Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, she overcame a lengthy break to beat a strong field under young jockey Oisin Murphy and could emerge as a leading prospect for Finals Day.
