GOSDEN HAILS A NEW STAR

Top trainer JOHN GOSDEN, who is going great guns at the head of the Championship table, unleashed a new star last weekend when the lightly raced Utmost won the Listed Winter Derby Trial and guaranteed his place in the big Middle Distance final on Good Friday, the Easter Classic. Utmost made all the running to repel favourite Victory Bond and the closing pack in the Fast Track Qualifier.

KACHY HAS SPRINT FINAL ON AGENDA

It’s two out of two at Lingfield Park for Tom Dascombe’s smart sprinter KACHY, whose victory in last weekend’s Listed Cleves Stakes cemented his place in the £150,000 Sprint Final at Easter. He overcame a bad draw in the Fast Track Qualifier to dominate and beat a useful field in a dress rehearsal for the big day and is now clear favourite to complete his hat-trick.

NEWCASTLE’S A JEWEL FOR GOLDIE

Scottish trainer JIM GOLDIE continues to farm the winners at Newcastle and has a progressive sprinter on his hands in last week’s impressive winner Oriental Lilly, who helped him maintain an impressive strike rate of about 25%. Meanwhile, jockey JOE FANNING continued his purple patch with a double at Southwell on Tuesday. He is operating at a win rate of around 40% in recent weeks.
