Top Newmarket trainers are topping the table in the early race for the All-Weather Championships, while an impressive Kempton winner could be heading for a big date Down Under.

HUGO MAKES A STORMING START

Newmarket trainer HUGO PALMER has made a flying start to the new All-Weather Championships, beginning the week at the top of the table with John Gosden. Palmer’s team has been spearheaded by Lingfield Park Fast Track Qualifier winner Gifted Master, an early contender for the £150,000 Good Friday Sprint Final.

IT’S ELEMENTARY FOR YOUNG WATSON

Young Lambourn handler ARCHIE WATSON, who only began training in August last year, reached a proud personal landmark at Southwell last Friday when Isstoora became his 50th winner in his first full year among the training ranks. Watson, a former assistant to William Haggas, has also enjoyed Group success with star mare Absolute Blast who was placed in Group 1 company in Italy in the Autumn.

BIG RACE DOWN UNDER BECKONS RED VERDON

RED VERDON had his trainer Ed Dunlop dreaming of Melbourne Cup glory next year after winning the Listed Wild Flower Stakes over a mile and a half at Kempton Park last week. Ronnie Arculla’s horse stays well and could also take in the two-mile Marathon Final on Good Friday en route to a trip to Australia in the Autumn.
