Master The World Wins Group 3 Winter Derby In Dramatic Circumstances.Mon, 26/02/2018
The 21 st running of the Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield Park on Saturday turned out to be the most dramatic in the race’s history, while a three-year- old sprinter completed the unique feat of winning two Fast Track Qualifiers for Good Friday’s £1 million Finals Day.
MASTER CLAIMS DERBY GLORY IN STEWARDS’ ROOM
MASTER THE WORLD was handed the Group 3 Winter Derby in the stewards’ room on Saturday after the most eventful renewal of the Lingfield Park feature in its 21-year history. David Elsworth’s grey was awarded the prize after being badly hampered when closing in on the first horse past the post, Mr Owen, who swerved when he was startled by a shadow near the winning post. Master The World will now contest the £200,000 Easter Classic over the same course and distance on Good Friday.
KNIGHT SPRINTS TO SECOND FAST TRACK VICTORY
Young Lambourn trainer Archie Watson is rightfully proud of his three-year- old CORINTHIA KNIGHT, who dashed to his second Fast Track Qualifier success of the winter when he made all the running in a strong race at Newcastle last week. The chestnut had previously won a similar race at Kempton Park and will now head to the 3YO Final at Lingfield on Good Friday with a leading chance.
NO JOY FOR RECORD CHASING ‘GRAHAM’
There was no joy for popular gelding SPARE PARTS – known at home as Graham - at Wolverhampton last Friday when he attempted to win his sixth race of the winter. Chasing a £10,000 prize for the season’s winning-most horse, Phil McEntee’s star could finish only fifth in a seven-furlong handicap but will be back in action again following a well-earned short break.
