Never Back Down wins Fast Track Qualifier at Wolverhampton

Newmarket trainer Hugo Palmer clinched his second Fast Track Qualifier of the season at snow swept Wolverhampton last weekend while Lambourn trainer Jamie Osborne continues in top form.

PALMER COLT REFUSES TO BACK DOWN

NEVER BACK DOWN continued trainer Hugo Palmer’s fine run of form by clinching the Fast Track Qualifier for the 3YO Sprint Final at the weekend. He came with a strong late run to beat a quality field in a 6f conditions race at Wolverhampton under a perfectly judged ride by Josephine Gordon. Never Back Down had never raced on the All-Weather but got the better of smart rivals Corinthia Knight and Sound And Silence – both placed in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf.

TRAINERS CONTINUE IN FLYING FORM

JAMIE OSBORNE began the week at the top of the trainers’ table with 13 winners following another productive spell on the sand. The Lambourn handler was operating at a strike rate of 18 per cent after sending out five winners from 25 runners in the last fortnight. Similarly, HUGO PALMER took his tally to 12 winners at an even more impressive win rate of 27 per cent following Never Back Down’s notable success.

TOAST POPS UP FOR A REMARKABLE VICTORY

Jamie Osborne’s TOAST OF NEW YORK overcame a three-year absence to win at Lingfield last week – his first start since suffering a leg injury. The six-year-old hadn’t been seen on a racecourse since failing narrowly to win the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic and may now re-appear in the Listed Quebec Stakes back at the Surrey track before Christmas. The World Cup in Dubai could be his long term target.
