Varian French Raid Pays DividendsTue, 03/01/2017
Newmarket trainer Roger Varian's decision to send his well bred filly REALTRA to France for a Listed race over Christmas certainly paid dividends. Not only did she boost her paddock value by winning the valuable contest at Deauville, but she also qualified for a crack at the £150,000 Fillies and Mares Final at Lingfield Park on Good Friday. It was a smart performance from a horse who had been off the track for well over a year.
Fast Track Spotlight On Newcastle
The All-Weather Championships spotlight returns to Newcastle next week when a Fast Track Qualifier for the £150,000 Sprint Final at Lingfield Park in April takes place. The winner of the five-furlong contest will secure a guaranteed place in the big race on Good Friday. It will be the third and final Qualifier at the North East track following Godolphin's success in the first two with 3YO Sprint contender KANANEE and Marathon prospect WINNING STORY.
Kingscote On Cloud Nine
Jockey RICHARD KINGSCOTE is on Cloud Nine following a year to remember. The Northern based rider recorded 100 winners in a calendar year for the first time in his career and began 2017 sharing pole position in the riders' championship with Adam Kirby. It's been a welcome change of fortune for Kingscote, who was badly injured in a pile up at Wolverhampton the previous winter.
