Frank Misses Out In Monaco

The prestigious street circuit of Monaco was the destination for round four of the 2017 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup where the series was supporting the Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend and saw Lake District-born Frank Bird in action as part of the Fortec Motorsport Team.

Making his debut at Monte Carlo and in only his second race on a street circuit, the 17-year-old Be Wiser, Hager, WIX Filters and Frank Bird Poultry-backed driver originally from Penrith was hoping to continue his great progress after races at Monza, Silverstone and Pau.
Frank was soon up to speed with the technical nature of the world’s most famous racetrack and posted some decent times during practice and qualifying to end up 13th for the opening race. However, his race was short-lived when he retired on the opening lap much to his disappointment. Sadly, Frank didn’t see the chequered flag in the second outing either and following a precautionary medical check, he was given the all-clear.

Frank Bird:  “The weekend started well and I was looking quite quick. Qualifying was good and I improved my lap time by 1.8 seconds and managed to qualify for both races so I was pleased with that. Both races didn’t go to plan as I had a DNF in both so it wasn’t good and I’m a bit disappointed. It was a pleasure to support the Formula 1 race at one of the most famous circuits in the world, even though it didn't go to plan for me. Thanks to my team and sponsors, we’ll go away and regroup and hopefully enjoy some better fortune at the next round in Hungary.”

That race at the Hungaroring takes place over the weekend of 30 June/2 July.
