Over half (57%) of British motorists put potholes at the top of their list when it comes to what they dislike most about UK roads, according to a recent poll by Be Wiser Insurance.
The poll asked motorists about what they disliked about UK roads the most. After the poor state of British road surfaces the sheer number of cars on the road polled highest, with a fifth (21%) saying there are just too many cars on British roads.
Mark Bower-Dyke comments
"As always, the things which cause motorists the most stress are things which are either completely out of their control, such as other drivers, and things which they know someone else should be looking after, such as road services. A sense that even the surface of the road is against you when driving can really get you down!"
Potholes can do a great deal of damage to cars over the long term, sometimes even causing breakdowns.
In 2009 Be Wiser Insurance asked what would be top of driver's motoring wish-list, at this time only a fifth (18%) put the disappearance of pot-holes at the top of their list.
Mark Bower-Dyke comments:
"While poor road surfaces can't be directly attributed to breakdowns, the worsening state of British roads is possibly a contributing factor over the long term. The only real way to deal with the probability of being caught out is to be prepared with quality breakdown cover and a flask of warm tea!"
Be Wiser provides free RAC breakdown cover with all of its motor insurance policies (the tea is not included).
