When it comes to keeping children entertained during a long car journey it would appear that the more traditional games have the edge over modern day technology.
A survey, conducted by Be Wiser Insurance, revealed that over a quarter of drivers, 26.8%, thought that the old favourites such as Eye Spy, the Number Plate Game and the Yellow Car game were the most popular and effective ways of keeping the cries of “are we there yet?” to a minimum as the half term holidays approach and families take to the open road.
Music, with 25.6%, was voted the next best way of assuring a stress free journey and more effective than modern day gadgets such as hand held consoles which had 24% of the vote, while films were the third most popular choice with 19.9% of UK drivers.
“All parents know that keeping their children entertained while on a long journey can be a bit of a challenge,” said Be Wiser’s chairman Mark Bower-Dyke. “However, nowadays with so many different options available it is becoming somewhat easier, which is why we were pleasantly surprised to see that the more traditional games have stood the test of time and are still keeping children entertained.”
