Nearly two-thirds (64%) of British motorists have lost their car at some point.
While 63% of respondents admitted to having lost their car they qualified this by saying that they'd only lost it briefly.
Mark Bower-Dyke, Chairman of Be Wiser Insurance, comments:
"It's easy enough to forget where you left your car, especially in giant supermarket or shopping centre car parks you've never visited before. But most respondents admitted to losing their car in a place they park regularly, because they were forced to park in a slightly different place – they lost the car by assuming it would be where they usually left it!"
Sadly a quarter (24%) of respondents who had lost their car had in fact had their car stolen.
Mark Bower-Dyke comments:
"A good security system can help your car avoiding such a fate - and can factor in to the price of your insurance. A car alarm can deter thieves, while advanced tracking systems can make it easier to find your car if it does get stolen."
A possibly slightly confused 1% have lost their car for more than a day, without it being stolen or anyone else's fault!
Mark Bower-Dyke concludes:
"Naturally, there's not much help for these people! Except maybe getting a GPS tracker for the car so they can hunt it down using their phone - assuming they can find that!"
