Dangerous habits form the backbone of stress on the road according to a recent poll by Be Wiser Insurance.

Over two thirds (70%) of respondents said the most annoying driving habit of other road users related to some form of dangerous or endangering manoeuvres - whether it's tailgating, cutting up or lack of indication.

Mark Bower-Dyke, Chairman of Be Wiser Insurance, comments:

"We all like to ensure that the space we have on the road is not only safe, but comfortable - and when someone seems to go out of their way to make that space less comfortable it's easy to get annoyed."

A quarter (25%) of respondents put lack of indication at the top of their most annoying habits list.

"When you're unsure of how other drivers will manoeuvre on the roads it can lead to frustration, and in worse cases having to make evasive manoeuvres and accidents! It's not just about missing your opportunity at a busy roundabout."

Just under a quarter (24%) of people polled put moving into braking distance and cutting up on top of their list, while 21% suggested tailgating was the worst offence.

"We tend to think of this space on the road as 'ours' - in the same way we do while walking down the high-street; if someone acted in a similar way there it would be considered equally as unacceptable!"

Other strong responses focused on rudeness: 10% suggested "hogging" the middle lane as the worst driving habit, while drivers who do not acknowledge others received 14% of the vote.
