Assen Bound Be Wiser Ducati Duo Aim For Dutch Delight

The penultimate round of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship sees the Be Wiser Ducati pairing of Glenn and Andrew Irwin head to the famous TT Circuit in Assen with the Carrickfergus brothers having slightly differing agendas.

For 28-year-old Glenn, he’s aiming to bounce back after a tough weekend at Oulton Park in the opening Showdown round at Oulton Park aboard Paul Bird’s factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R. There, he missed the chance to close the gap on the two riders ahead of him in the standings, so he arrives at the Dutch track knowing nothing short of his first wins of the year will suffice if he’s to take his challenge into the final round at Brands Hatch next month.

As for 24-year-old sibling Andrew, he’ll be looking to carry on his superb form which saw him achieve his best BSB result of his short career when he took his Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R to fourth place in the mixed conditions at Oulton Park two weeks ago. And with Assen being a track where few have raced or tested since the corresponding meeting last year, Andrew is hoping the level playing field may work to his advantage this weekend for the Lake District-based team.

Glenn Irwin: “We showed great pace at Oulton Park and were strong enough to fight for the wins, but it just wasn’t our weekend. I’m heading into Assen with my future sorted which is a huge weight off my shoulders and I also felt my aggression has improved another level. With all this in mind, there is only one target and that is the top step of the podium, nothing else.

Andrew Irwin: “Oulton Park proved to be a good meeting for me so I’m looking to continue the momentum into this weekend. Assen is one of those tracks which I think everyone looks forward to racing at and that’s the same for me. I really enjoyed riding there on a 600 so can’t wait to get my first ride on a Superbike around such an historic track.”

There is live action on Eurosport and on the Eurosport player throughout the weekend with Datatag Extreme Qualifying on Saturday from 16.00 (CET) and the two Bennetts BSB races are live on Sunday at 13.15 (CET) and 16.30 (CET). Highlights on ITV4 will be shown on Wednesday evening at 20.00.

Glenn Irwin: “We showed great pace at Oulton Park and were strong enough to fight for the wins, but it just wasn’t our weekend."
Andrew Irwin: “Oulton Park proved to be a good meeting for me so I’m looking to continue the momentum into this weekend."
