Veteran chestnut FIRST MOHICAN clinched his place in the All-Weather Championships’ two-mile Marathon Final at Lingfield Park on Good Friday with a gritty success in Saturday’s Fast Track Qualifier at the Surrey track. Trained by Alan King, he was given a well-judged ride by regular partner Hollie Doyle to gain compensation for two placed efforts in similar qualifiers this winter.
Newcastle Win Just The Start For Final
Mark Johnston, the leading trainer in the All-Weather Championships, has another emerging star on his hands in FINAL, who relished every yard of the mile and a half trip to win Newcastle’s feature handicap last week. The victory gave jockey Joe Fanning his 50th success of the season and opens up the option to tackle an £85,000 handicap at the North East track on Good Friday.
Signs Are Good For Dundalk Winner Kodiac
English raider SIGN OF THE KODIAC made the long journey to Dundalk in Ireland pay off on Friday when he won the Fast Track Qualifier for the £150,000 Sprint Final on Good Friday. James Given’s sprinter, partnered by top Irish jockey Pat Smullen, was placed in last season’s 3YO Final at Lingfield so trainer James Given will be hoping he can go one better on his return on 14th April.
