An old favourite bounced back to form to win Wolverhampton’s big race this week while a young jockey claimed another success to boast the best strike rate in the Championships table.
GALLANT GREY WATERSMEET CLAIMS FINAL PLACE
WATERSMEET, who was runner-up in last season’s Marathon Final, bounced back from defeat at Newcastle in December to win the Fast Track Qualifier at Wolverhampton on Monday evening and clinch his place in the line-up for Good Friday’s renewal. The gallant grey was headed by French horse Funny Kid inside the final furlong but fought back to score a courageous victory under Joe Fanning.
RELENTLESS RYAN RIDES ANOTHER WINNER
Remember the name ROSSA RYAN. The 17-year-old apprentice looks a star in the making after registering his 16th win of the season on Outer Space at Wolverhampton on Monday. That success gave the Galway-born teenager an even better strike rate (around 24%) than the senior jockeys he competes against.
JOY FOR COLLINS AS CAPTAIN STRIKES AGAIN
Veteran CAPTAIN JOY rolled back the years to win Ireland’s Fast Track Qualifier for the Mile Final at Dundalk last Friday. Tracey Collins’ popular grey can now look forward to a crack at the £150,000 Final he won at Lingfield in 2016, while Hugo Palmer has ambitious plans for this week’s Wolverhampton winner STAR ARCHER – a possible candidate for the Group 3 Winter Derby.
