Yorkshire trainer David O’Meara had two reasons to celebrate at Wolverhampton on Saturday night. The Irishman achieved his 100th success of the year in completing a treble that took him to the top of the Trainers’ Championship.

O’Meara begins the new week level-pegging with Saeed Bin Suroor on 13 winners following stable jockey Danny Tudhope’s wins under the Dunstall Park floodlights on Coquine, New Signal and Mythical Madness.

Snapped up for a bargain price

The latter was the most impressive winner of the night, taking the valuable feature handicap to announce himself as a potential contender for the Middle Distance Championship. Not bad for a horse snapped up for a bargain price of £10,000 after winning a low grade race at the track in November.

Despite his treble, Tudhope doesn’t consider himself a Jockeys’ Championship contender. He plans to take a few weeks’ holiday over Christmas, while title race leaders Graham Gibbons and Adam Kirby will be hard at work.

Broken collarbone

Gibbons has been a surprise name at the top of the leaderboard with 20 winners but showed what a capable rider he is by winning two of last season’s valuable Finals. Kirby, runner-up in the last two seasons, is breathing down his neck but reigning Champion Luke Morris continues to play catch-up after missing the first three weeks of the season with a broken collarbone.

Danny Tudhope returns to the winner’s enclosure on New Signal after completing a treble for trainer David O’Meara at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
