Motorists in Cheshire are taking advantage of short-term parking rules, an official has stated.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Julia Short commented that motorists usually take longer in spaces when they know that inspectors are not close by.

On Tuesday, PCSO Short was around and issued two fixed-penalty notices, in addition to having to tell ten drivers to move on.

She said: "When we are on the streets, the streets are clear. But people take advantage when we are not here."

It may be that a motoring conviction for a parking offence results in difficulty for drivers the next time they come to renew their car insurance policies.

This is because cover companies may consider them to be a greater risk on the road.

Meanwhile, the number of Brighton and Hove motorists picking up parking fines is down to its lowest level in five years, the Argus reports.
