Mountain Bell wins Marathon Fast Track Qualifier

Trainer Ralph Beckett, who won the 2016 All-Weather Championships Marathon Final, has another smart Good Friday prospect on his hands following Saturday’s Fast Track Qualifier, while another potential star son of the great Frankel made a striking racecourse debut at the weekend.

BELL TOLLS FOR MARATHON FINAL

MOUNTAIN BELL confirmed her place in the £150,000 Marathon Final on Good Friday by winning the two-mile Fast Track Qualifier at Newcastle on Saturday. Josephine Gordon brought the Qatar Racing-owned filly from last to beat Cape Cova on only her third start of the year for Ralph Beckett, who will be hoping to emulate his Final victory with another talented filly, Moonrise Landing, in 2016.

SON OF FRANKEL EXCELS ON DEBUT

Another son of the great Frankel made a big impression on his racecourse debut last weekend. WITHOUT PAROLE romped away from his rivals to win a mile novice stakes at Newcastle. Trained by John Gosden, the half-brother to Breeders Cup dirt winner Tamarkuz had jockey Rob Havlin gushing with praise. “He was green but has a lot of ability and is a nice prospect for next year. I wouldn’t think you’ll see him again until the Spring.”

NO BEACH BREAK YET FOR MUSCUTT

Talented young jockey DANIEL MUSCUTT has put his well-earned beach break on hold following a productive spell on the All-Weather which saw him complete a double at Newcastle on Saturday. After winning a maiden on Warm Oasis for James Fanshawe and the feature handicap on Pat Chamings’s Charles Molson, Muscutt told me: “I’ve been planning to take a holiday but don’t want to stop while things are going so well.”
